Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnosis of the incidence and advancement of periapical periodontitis using RVG and CBCT in primary and secondary inflammation. 


Methods Four cases of patients treated for dental caries as well as complications related to caries and endodontic treatment was chosen. Digital X-ray pictures were obtained using angle technique by Planmeca Intra apparatus. Planmeca ProMax equipment was used for volumetric examinations. Based on the recorded volume of data, pantomographic reconstruction and cross-sections (contact, transsectal, axial, frontal and sagittal) were obtained in all patients. The X-ray images were compared by the Planmeca Romexis imaging software.


Results In the presented cases the assessment of lesions using X-ray pictures was impreciseonly and only CBCT managed to visualize periodontal inflammatory lesion difficult to evaluate or invisible.


Conclusion CBCT compared to pantomography and RVG has better detection rate in the analysis of location, range of inflammatory, arrangement of anatomical dental structures or assessment of the healing process and help to make accurate diagnosis and plan the therapeutic process.
